"Special Rules" for the Discussion of the Proposed Revision
In the near future, likely within the month, the BOD will be sending out some "special rules" for this process leading up to our discussion and possible vote of the Proposed Revision this summer. One of the items contained in these "special rules" is how to go about recommending amendments. These "special rules" will be sent to all pastors of churches, it will be included in an EFCA broadcast email, and they will be posted on the EFCA Website. We will also post it here, along with a link to the document.
We are excited, and have been since we began this process in 2003, when the task of looking at our SOF was initially given to the Spiritual Heritage Committee. As you may recall, it became a denominational-wide discussion in 2005. We remain excited to see what the Lord will do, and because the Lord is leading, we are hopeful!

While the "unity" includes "the Son" (paragraph 1), and Jesus Christ is the subject of paragraphs 3 through 9, nowhere is it stated that Jesus Christ IS the Son (of God) identified in paragraph 1.
Semon,
Thank you for your interaction with the Proposed Revision.
As you know, no Statement of Faith or Creed can use all of the names of God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirt. We have a Bible that does that! Instead, Creeds or Statements of Faith emphasize key names from the Bible. Here are two responses.
First, in article 1 Jesus is identified as "the Son," not "a Son." This does implicitly address your concern.
Second, here are the other ways Jesus is referred to in the Statement, which speak volumes about who He is: the Son, Jesus Christ, God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures, Jesus, Israels promised Messiah, High Priest, Advocate, Representative, Substitute, Sacrifice, Lord Jesus Christ, Christ, Head, Lord Jesus, Lord Jesus Christ, Judge, Lord.
In Christ,
Greg
