A Neighbor in Need

Our Florence response staff in North Carolina got an interesting call. A man who had recently moved called the church to see if he could get help for one of his old neighbors. Knowing that she probably could not afford all the repairs she needed, he then offered to buy the materials if we would send teams to do the work. Neighbors helping neighbors – sounds like the perfect project for Reach Week 2021!

What is Reach Week? It’s the week that our partner church, One Harbor, commits to sending a team of local volunteers to serve in their own neighborhood, sharing the love of Christ by serving homeowners that are still recovering from Hurricane Florence. This week we had five volunteers serving with us over the week; they were able to put a new roof on Miss Millie’s house as well as scrape, paint and replace some siding. It was especially encouraging that Miss Millie’s son, Dallas, worked alongside the team for most for the week, and our staff had some great Gospel-oriented conversations with him.

Miss Millie lives right next to a small church, which was a nice partnership for the week. This church has a mostly older membership, but they still found ways to participate to love on their neighborhood. They provided lunches for our volunteers and staff, and we invited them to join us on prayer walks. It was an added blessing for the week!

We love that One Harbor is such an engaged partner for our response, but we need other churches to help out as well so that we can keep developing relationships like the ones with Miss Millie and Dallas. Could your church send a team to help us continue in ministry? Could you commit to praying for God to grow the seeds of truth that were planted this week? God is doing great things in North Carolina. Come and be a part of it!
