Debris Piles and Divine Appointments
This is one of three mobile homes that washed hundreds of yards downstream and landed on this adjacent property in Hunt, Texas. Volunteers last week worked to break apart the homes and remove the debris. ReachGlobal Crisis Response is partnering with local community leaders and churches in Hunt to coordinate the local cleanup efforts, so Mark got the chance to help with this property.
The already enormous piles along the road made it necessary to find a place upstream to transport the debris from these demolished mobile homes. And that led Mark to Don’s front porch, seeking permission to dump debris on his nearby road frontage.
Don, in his mid-80s, survived the flood waters, and is already moving forward with some repairs. He had a harrowing flood survival story, but as Mark listened he learned that it was also the one year anniversary of the death of his wife after 57 years of marriage. Don was all alone on his porch. And Mark understood the real grief that he was experiencing. After a long conversation, Mark prayed for Don, and then thanked God that they'd run out of dump space, because that created the opportunity for this divine appointment. Mark also realized afterwards that he had forgotten his phone in the truck, allowing him to give his full attention to Don.
The floods in Texas have opened up doors for ReachGlobal Crisis Response to listen and pray with dozens of people. We are also still evaluating a longer-term response, and taking donations to support on-going ministry in the weeks and months to come. Pray with us for wisdom and discernment as we navigate how to respond in this unique context, pray for more divine appointments within the community, and pray for healing for the families who are just starting to recover. You can also respond with us by giving here.
