Unexpected Blessings

Sometimes God brings us homeowners to work with through the strangest avenues. Ava wasn’t looking for help with her home when she took her car to Midas for repairs. She didn’t know that Steve the manager attended Bayshore Bible Church, our partner church in the Corpus Christi Harvey response. But she did end up telling him about the damage Harvey caused to her home when she dropped her car off. Steve didn’t know that we rarely work on mobile homes when he suggested that she call ReachGlobal Crisis Response. But God knew all of these things and still He led us to visit Ava’s home.

When our staff went to look at Ava’s house the need that stood out the most wasn’t the damage or even the mold, it was Ava. She needed to see the love of God in a real and tangible way. So we agreed to work on the home, putting a new roof on it and fixing it up inside because that allowed our staff to build a relationship with Ava. Our staff and our teams were able to share the love of Christ with her. The quilt in the picture was a gift from a team and it still hangs on her wall as a prized possession. Even now that we are done working there, we continue to invest in that relationship by visiting with her and praying for Ava and her family to know Christ.

There are many other families like Ava who need help with their homes, and they don't even know who to ask, and still more families on our list and waiting for help. Our Corpus Christi staff are working hard to share the love of Christ with each one of these families, but they need help. Your church could send a small team to serve in Corpus Christi to extend our capacity and help us love on more people. Email respond@efca.org for more information on how to bring a team in 2021 or for questions about our COVID precautions for teams.
