Planting churches

The Light Church

A new EFCA church in West Palm Beach, Florida

Recently, Pastor Jeremy Barahona and his family moved from Chicago to plant The Light church in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was on staff at The Brook Chicago, an EFCA church and their sending church, and the relationships he formed there, and with leaders at the Great Lakes District, convinced him he wanted to plant with the EFCA.

People gathered to pray

As he laid the groundwork to plant, he connected with Southeast District superintendent Glen Schrieber and Hispanic ministries director Hugo Concha to see if it would be a good fit. Upon meeting them, it was clear they were in alignment in their theology, experience and expertise. Soon after, he joined a weekly pastoral cohort with other Latino pastors for training and coaching, connecting him with a network of pastors for support and empowerment to bring the gospel to West Palm Beach.

Six months in, they’re organizing outreach opportunities to eventually form a congregation. This month, Pastor Barahona and his team are starting an evangelistic Bible study to share the gospel and recruit a launch team. The youth are an integral part of their community, and they hope to reach second and third generation Latinos with the gospel. Please pray for relationships to grow, for disciples to be made and for God’s direction on how to best engage their community.
