Refugees in Crisis

Recent images in the news of refugees from the Syrian conflict and it’s effects in Europe brought this four-year-old crisis back into the public eye. The numbers are staggering – more than 7 million people displaced from Syria and the related conflict in Iraq. While this mass displacement of people is a complicated humanitarian and social crisis, it is also an opportunity for the Church to do what it is called to do, glorify God through loving and caring for people and to share the good news with good deeds.

ReachGlobal has ongoing outreach called Refugees in Crisis. Focusing on refugees in Lebanon and other nearby countries, and at points closest to the conflict and places people temporarily settle, the vision is to tangibly minister Christ’s love among the refugees, build relationships, multiply disciples, and plant churches.

The work includes serving and relationally investing in refugees as they wait in uncertainty, travel to resettlement locations, or as they start their lives again in new homes.

In addition to working through national partners in countries bordering the conflict, we also work with the ReachGlobal Europe staff in cities like Budapest and Berlin, as well as their church partners, to help care for and reach out to the refugees at their destination. We’re working at the confluence and the destination of this mass movement of people.

Here’s how you can respond:

Start with a committed prayer effort

• for the refugees to experience God’s grace and peace and presence.
• that the Church would reach out tangibly in love to share hope and truth
• that the physical needs of the refugees would be met
• that there would be a movement of disciplemaking among the refugees
