Understanding Scripture

The Theology Conference as an Ebenezer

Listen to John Perkins conclude the 2018 Theology Conference with a message on love

In the closing lecture of the 2018 Theology Conference, Dr. John Perkins, founder and president emeritus of the John and Vera Mae Perkins Foundation, spoke on “‘The Final Apologetic’: Love and the Struggle We Must Win.”

As he considered the call of God for racial harmony and unity in the gospel, Dr. Perkins urged his listeners to turn their faces toward God, trusting in His power and love to renew and reconcile His people.

“The speakers here are saying almost the same thing, and I think we are at a pivotal moment. I sought in my Bible understanding. I see this as an ebenezer: the place that we’re going to be forever remembering to come back to. I think we're going to leave here trying to make this event again because I think the stuff is coming together. It's coming together. I really believe that God is speaking in the midst of us, and I think probably what us speakers are doing is reminding us of what we already know, and I think He’s calling us to make that commitment. I think we’re afraid of it, and I think probably you're afraid of it theologically, but repentance and turning to God is always there as an option. It’s always there in terms of God saying, I will fulfill your longing. You are my people who are called by my name. People who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways. I will hear you from heaven.” — Dr. John Perkins
