Safe Harbor in Houston — Refuge Church

In 2010, Blaine Hooper deployed to Afghanistan in the U.S. Army 101 Airborne Division to fight the Taliban and mentor Afghan forces. Badly wounded, he felt angry with God and the people around him, but God used that experience to bring Blaine closer to Himself and years later, he accepted the call away from the military and into ministry.

In 2018, God led Blaine, his wife and family to welcome refugees in Sharpstown-Gulfton, an underserved community in the Houston, Texas area. Not long after, they planted Refuge Church to share and show Christ’s love for all people far from God.

Today, they’re working with multiple ministries, including ReachGlobal Crisis Response and the EFCA’s All People Initiative, to welcome, love and empower Afghan refugees in their community. Learn more about Refuge Church.
